Aussie planner Greg Vann, who is project manager for revisions to the South East Queensland Regional Plan, sends along some recent results, with this surprising indicator:
Shaping SEQ is the start of an ongoing conversation with the community about the future of South East Queensland.
The Queensland Government is currently reviewing the South East Queensland regional plan and is calling for your ideas to ensure the plan reflects the values and needs of the community.
One would think that Queenslanders who live in the Brisbane sprawl would be most committed to the idea of the Australian Dream – the quarter-acre block with the single-family house. And maybe so. But almost half want that house close to public transport as their first choice when deciding where to live.
You’d think that would register with their political leaders.

What they want regarding transit near their quarter acre may not be affordable or even possible with such low densities. It would be utterly foolish to commit transit to perpetually low ridership. Those feeder bus routes that do anything but a straight line or change land use to a more efficient form are not a wise expenditure of public money
