Our murals are almost always bland, tedious or childish. But the sometimes fantastic, striking and bold graffiti is painted over in a big hurry. Vienna, liveable city #1, has large stretches of high walls along the river in the core where amazing graffiti is permitted to flourish.

There are often places in European cities where this art form, unsullied by committee, is permitted, and it makes their cities more dynamic and colourful.
It’s also an outlet that most likely makes inappropriate graffiti easier to control elsewhere.

Just one more area of social culture where North Americans are squashed by authority.
