Even if it’s not supposed to be a joke, it is a joke. But my real question is: will it work on a human subject with the carcasses of thousands of dead insects already stuck to the hood? Adhesiveness will undoubtedly suffer.
The ped breaks through an “eggshell layer” then hits the adhesive. I’d imagine they’d try to make it so large insects or birds don’t break this layer very often.
It doesn’t really sound any crazier than the airbags that are starting to get legislated for pedestrians. That just softens the blow of them hitting the hood, the car has to react to make the hood cushion a bit.
Clearly I did not. But it still sounds like a lot of very specialized and expensive material. I have also not heard about pedestrian airbags. I’m curious to know how many lives this would actually save per the cost. You still get hit, but are then awkwardly and partially stuck to the front/side panel of a moving car – assuming the shell cracks away just right.
It’s absurd. What if a pedestrian is stuck to the car sideways with the head dangling off and dragging against the ground? I mean, for as many situations where this would help I see situations where this would make the injuries more life threatening.

Gives a new meaning to the expression, ‘Sticking around after an accident’.
