One thing I find interesting about Telus Garden is the fact the architects cladded the bottoms of the cantilevered balcony slabs, and the bottoms of the protruding sections, with green glass. The view up from the street therefore has a bit more intricacy.
The glass cladding on the ledges/frames is only on the east side of the condo tower, as that side will light up. The unfinished concrete frame on the west side of the condo tower will probably be painted concrete.
The original application to the City had the undersides of the ledges / frames lighting up – but they changed that the outside edges of the ledges/frames (likely due to potential complaints from residents) – so they will appear like the edges of the protruding boxes on the office tower.
They had a test a few weeks ago (note the test is brighter than they will be and patchy rather than continuous due to the testing phase).
The biggest issue with the condo tower is the stark difference between the model and image used in marketing the condos (with wooden or wood coloured fins), versus the as-built (with transparent glass fins). … and the deletion of the back-lit onyx stone cladding from the podium design.
The next bit people are watching is how the older Telus House building (mid block) will be re-clad. They are currently installing brackets on the old façade for a “second skin”. There’s also an unfortunately large mechanical penthouse addition to the roof of Telus House.
Also, very poor design / planning having a retail doorway line up with the pre-existing public washroom:
