Oh, brother. Cue the moral panic. It’s true these things are often hideously wasteful, but why do we think we have standing to dictate how somebody’s house should look – especially if it complies with existing zoning restrictions for height, setback, footprint, etc.? Why are we all so horribly precious? Is it because we’re old?
You can’t simultaneously begrudge the ‘no fun’ vibe of Vancouver and insist upon ‘appropriate’ design that doesn’t offend. That’s just nuts.
Its up to the Municipalities to set the design standards regarding scale, light/shadow, etc. Agree that the look and personal design is up to the homeowner. Kudos to Delta as the only Municipality to have the vision and foresight to bring in policy to prevent Monster Homes construction.

Up-zone.
Now cue even more intense rage about increasing density in their backyards.
You shouldn’t even joke about that. Where would the servants park?
They’re the only ones on the bus.
If the north side of Point Grey Road were redeveloped with condos instead of monster homes, there’d be a lot fewer driveways to deal with…
