Item from Ian: Phones don't kill people

An interesting article discussing pedestrians distracted by their cell phones and the automotive industry was found courtesy of Ian Roberston:

The story goes on to propose that smartphone manufacturers should be held responsible for creating a product that endangers people’s safety when they’re on foot. Not, you know, the companies that make cars that hit and kill the people.

  1. Yep. I’m sure gun manufacturers would have something to say about the precedent being set here.
Anyway, until Apple gives in to the FBI’s encryption demands, I expect to hear more threats of onerous laws imposed upon the tech industry. Can’t wait to see what happens if Trump wins and the gloves really come off.
Stephen Harper and Christy Clark have obviously turned me into a cynical nutcase.

    1. That’s an interesting angle … Almost setting up an ‘if you win, you lose’ scenario for them long term … As the successful argument against phones could also go against cars in the future, or guns as you mention.
