A new 1000-foot tower going up in Manhattan provides a more interesting take: Hanging gardens that twirl down the exterior of the building like a giant green exclamation point marking the end of the High Line.
The 65-story supertall is named “The Spiral” and it’s one of many new buildings planned around the Hudson Yards development, which is using an artificial foundation to suspend a new neighborhood over an active train yard. But this building has a very nice twist on the typical superskinny glass-and-steel skyscraper.

All those dead birds…
“Tower of Basel” anyone?
He does have a way of transforming the mundane tower into something interesting, without over the top gymnastics. This time, at least.
it looks beautiful !
But then, what does one expect for $2500+ / sq ft ? Blandness ?
Foreign, untaxed (or even illegal) money has its advantages, and employs many architects, realtors, plumbers, drywallers, interior designers, elevator installer, painters, furniture companies, flower delivery people etc. .. better than Syrian refugees that come with nothing and cost a lot.
They’ll unfortunately get the LNG work camp dorms in Kitimat and Prince Rupert. Not as architecturally inspiring, but unlike this thing in NY, they’ll actually be built this decade.
$2,500+ / sq ft seems a really high rent for an office tower – even a beautiful one. You did realize it was an office tower?
Not the rent, the value. $2000-$5000/sq ft.
Nice take on a stepped tower.
Disgusting. Along with hudson yards.
