I don’t think they can do that in Canada with our privacy laws.

The anti-spam law that came into force last year requires an “unsubscribe” mechanism in all commercial / spam e-mails – otherwise you may be fined – and Industry Canada HAS levied fines:
Porter Airlines was fined $150,000 for failing to include an “unsubscribe” button on its e-mails.

I have heard that physical books sales are rising. I know that many people prefer to read physical books. I prefer e-books as they don’t take physical space. That being said, there is no permitted sharing of most e-books and aren’t that much cheaper.
