It’s no surprise that other cities grapple with problems that are similar to Vancouver’s. In this case, San Francisco officials have proposed a “raised bikeway” along two blocks of Market Street, that busy major downtown arterial.

But seeing the bigger picture tells you that the network is the key, and the short, individual bike lane is but a step along the way, as this Wired article articulates for the San Francisco case.
Here in Vancouver, we are blessed with the beginnings of a useable bike network. And the results are reflected in the Pembina Institute’s recent report — highest bike trip mode share; greatest number of bike trips (despite second-smallest population); most downtown separated bike lanes.
