Victoria tries ‘pop-up’ bike lane
Cyclists and pedestrians got a taste of new ways of getting around in Victoria Sunday, as a pop up project let people try out reconfigured streets around Beacon Hill Park and Cook Street to see if it makes life easier and safer.
The city erected a ‘pop-up’ protected bike lane on Cook Street, near Dallas Road.

The temporary markers were taken down at the end of the day, and officials say the feedback received will be used for future infrastructure planning.

How useful is the collected data for infrastructure planning? Maybe car traffic data, but as for bikes, I don’t just wander streets hoping that the city will put up a bike line by surprise. I plan ahead.
Not usage data, but whether or not people liked the changes.
Full disclosure: I was part of the volunteer team for this.
Did they?
People loved it. Most of the traffic through the booths (the City of Victoria was also doing engagement on the Biketoria plan) was people walking, a lot of local residents. They loved that the street was slower (it is currently quite wide) and the new temporary 3-way stop at the south end of the popup helped keep cars in check.
