City Conversations – The Future of the Viaducts: The City Staff’s Report
.
Two years ago, a unanimous City Council asked staff to prepare a report on the condition of the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts, and to explore what opportunities might exist if they were to be removed. The Staff Report will go to Council in September, following public consultations, and SFU City Conversations is getting a preview.
The extensive report looks at costs of retaining the viaducts, and the benefits and challenges of removing them. It recommends replacement with at-grade roadways, with provision for rental housing, parks, pedestrian and bicycle routes, cultural and sports amenities, and a new connection from Georgia Street to a reconfigured Pacific Boulevard.
Presenting the plan will be Vancouver city staff Holly Sovdi, lead urban planner for downtown, and Devan Fitch, lead transportation engineer for the Viaducts Project. We’ve also invited a representative of ReConnect Vancouver, a grassroots citizens’ organization supporting a new future for the top end of False Creek.

Would love to go but have work…can the presentation be posted before or after?
Well we can’t say they haven’t put in a lot of work/time into this. I sure do struggle with the false notion that an at grade main artery leaving downtown will open up access to the false creek shore. Also, I thought the shore park was already part of the deal. Is Concord Pacific selling us the same park twice and getting double concessions for it?
