From Sandy James:
Here is an interesting piece from Vienna that is getting a lot of media attention in print as well as on television. These crosswalk signals will stay up in Vienna until June, and were championed by Vienna Councilwoman Maria Vassilako who is in charge of traffic issues, and a Walk21 conference colleague.

I find the signals rather delightful, and the temporary implementation coincide with several events in the City promoting tolerance and understanding. I do wonder why there was not a more universal and permanent installation approach, having the pedestrian light signals reflecting the true diversity of walking pedestrians, inclusive of baby buggies, wheelers, and those rope chain gangs we associate with the crossings of daycare children.
