The Daily Scot in the Bay Area

Scot is in California and Arizona:

I will be sharing some shots and commentary from my brief trip the Bay Area and Phoenix.   First up: A special bike car accommodating commuting cyclists on the Caltrain, a heavy rail commuter train between San Jose and San Francisco.

  1. I wish they had something like this on the expo line skytrain. It’s always a bit awkward to bring your bike, even during the times it is legal. Since the doors open on different sides of the train at different stops, it is hard to find a place you are not in the way.

The westcoast express has good places for bikes, though, without it taking up virtually the whole car as in this photo.

  2. There should be similar bike areas on the SeaBus. Taking out a few seats for adequate bike parking (not just a sticker on the wall in a small corner) would actually increase passenger seating because people don’t block a row of seats with their bikes.
