Collective Living
.
Visiting a friend last month at his house near Kingsway/Slocan/33rd, I quickly realized they had a unique setup. Some would call it a commune perhaps, but they referred to it as a collective-living household – six young people living in a medium-sized house dividing up not only bills and utilities but nightly cooking assignments.
Growing their own food in the backyard, working from home in the ‘creative lounge’ or relaxing in the chill room, on an individual basis collective living seems to afford more space inside and out then a small apartment and better value for the pocket book.
I read a comment a few months back from Michael Kluckner who suggested that the McMansions of the West Side could all become rooming house in time. Well, it’s already happening.
