    But that little yellow circle does indicate the location of our star, our solar system, and our planet within an arm of a spiral galaxy that we call the Milky Way which we can see across the night sky on edge as a line of bright stars. I would guess that the artists view is taken from some 400,000 light years above the super massive black hole at the centre.

    We can also see through our galaxy to other distant galaxies. Soon we will see back through time to less than a second after the big bang. NASA is about to launch an instrument called the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) a system designed to detect the gravitational waves produced by the big bang
