According the the Streets for Everyone proposal, they intend to retain car parking on Commercial. This is good to know that there is still a lot in the area in addition to that.
Meanwhile, the head of the business association for Commercial Drive freaked out about the concept of replacing one parking spot with a bike corral in the block where he operates a restaurant. It would be great to upgrade street parking north of 1st Ave to separated bike lanes, but this might have to wait a while as people are probably not yet ready for this.
Yeah, give time for people to get used to new things. I like their approach of proposing only the southern section for the wider sidewalks and the bike lanes. Once that’s around for a few years and presumably other retail strips in town have them too, then the northern section can be looked at. Being narrower, it would not be the same I imagine.
