I just noticed that the Sep 2014 bike counts were posted,
with…[drumroll]… 142,000 people on the burrard bridge in september!

That’s a 52.7% increase from last year!
It beat the September record by 16,000!

I want to add some commentary to my comment above:
Why the increase on the Burrard Bridge significant?
Because we see that cycle usage over the 2 other locations (d. viaduct, dunsmuir) only increased by less than 8000 over last year. (eg the viaduct only increased from 51,000 to 55,000, or 7.8%) Interestingly, usage on Hornby (connected to burrard bridge) increased by 17%.
This means that the improved design on the B. Bridge South Side must account for at least 30% of the increase.
In fact, the increase on the burrard bridge from Sep 2013 to Sep 2014 is the largest % increase of cyclists since the lane opened.
Thanks for posting this. Awesome numbers. I know that one prominent councillor was concerned that bike counts had flattened in recent years on the separated routes. These numbers show the importance of making complete networks. Build it and they will come!

The increase is impressive and consistent with these earlier stats as of April 2014:
“Last week the City of Vancouver announced that Vancouver’s protected bike lanes had achieved all time records for their use, including a 21% increase in trips over the Burrard Bridge and a 150% increase in trips along Point Grey Road.”

I voted for Kasting on your poll – which is a shame since he has now stepped down in favour of Kirk Lapointe. Though presumably his name will still appear on the ballots.
So now we’re really down to three choices: the candidate in the right pocket of big money, the candidate in the left pocket of big money and the candidate making ridiculous proposals in Chinese. So sad.
