Twinning Tweets: Hype and Happenstance

Occasionally two tweets will come in on my feed, literally one after the other, that make a point larger than either does separately.  For instance, a tweet from Tom Fletcher…

.

… followed by this one from from Taras Grescoe:

Tweet 2

Tweet 3

.

Which either makes Fletcher’s point, or negates it.

  1. More to the point is that it demonstrates the lack of federal resources in Canada’s third largest province’s coast-which has the longest coastline in Canada. Whether it was the removal of 3 or more Coast Guard stations on the coast, moving the Environmental response office to Quebec, the downgrading of Esquimalt as a naval base or the lack of fighter jets at Comox-thank you, US Air Force for protecting Vancouver on Sept 11th, or the removal of an army presence to Alberta from Chilliwack-earthquake anyone?..We have been shortchanged in necessary infrastructure by all federal parties. Washington State has a tug assigned to the Strait of Juan de Fuca…we don’t. At the very least, the feds should have a Coast Guard ocean going tug in the Prince Rupert area. Compare the resources on the Great Lakes and East Coast..

  2. Hmm, ship founders, tug dispatched, ship towed safely to port. Seems a pretty reasonable and professional response. Remarkable, there are people that dedicate their lives and careers to making things as safe as possible.
