Due to the success of this initiative, we, the Downtown Vancouver BIA with the generous support of building owners has expanded the Perch public seating program to other plazas downtown, i.e. Alberni at Bute across from JJ Bean; the rear plaza of 401 West Georgia; and Nelson Square.
That’s great Charles. I was pleasantly surprised to see they weren’t chained to the ground. Would be interested to see what would happen in this city if we followed the Bryant Park model in Manhattan and just left the chairs out to be enjoyed and take the risk of theft. Apparently there only a handful go missing each year out of a few hundred.
Thank you DVBIA for brightening up some otherwise barren places!
Normally I walk through that plaza on my way to or from food and drink establishments close to the water at lunch or post work so (unlike the photo) I frequently see the tables and chairs in use.
