Speaking of good design (below), this just in from Michael Alexander:
.
These stylish and exceptionally functional bike racks recently appeared by the front doors of the London Drugs on Broadway at Cambie.
.
They’re certainly the handsomest I’ve seen. They easily accommodate bikes parked front wheel in, or the more secure rear in (which allows a U-lock to protect the frame and the more expensive rear wheel). They’re also properly spaced apart, to accommodate a bike with a rear pannier bag — perfect for most shopping.
Let’s hope that in years to come there will be hundreds more of these well-designed bits of street furniture.

Very cool. Many artistic bike racks tend have their functionality suffer as a result of the cool design but these ones look like they’re still functional.
I’ll have to go there and try them out.
I piked my bike their last week. Definitely appreciated the nice design.
Interesting. With the cargo bike, I’m all about rear-in now.
