Quote: Surreal Disjunction

From The Globe and Mail: “The PM can’t see the climate for the slush”

Nowhere in Canada is the impact of climate change more increasingly evident than the North. And yet, the words “climate change” are never heard from Mr. Harper in the North, as if the idea they connote are so distasteful that he cannot bring himself to utter them.
Every summer, surrounded by the evidence of Northern climate change – melting ice, widening sea lanes, disruption of traditional hunting patterns, shifting tundra, increased sun reflection, changing weather patterns – the Prime Minister spends a week in the region without ever drawing attention to the impact and challenges of climate change.

  1. It might be because the term climate change is politically charged, a bit like the term tar sands. It implies man made climate change, or it implies that man can somehow reverse it or slow it.
Perhaps another term akin to oil sands, is required such as natural warming or 10,000+ year warming trend.

    1. Your arrogance is outstanding. How do you survive in this world, thinking you know more about climate than the thousands and thousands of experts from all around the world?

      1. Not at all arrogant. Just skeptical .. and afraid of big governments … having grown up right besides the Iron Curtain and seen socialist big government collapse in the 1980’s … and seen other doom-and-gloom prophets like the Club of Rome’s fear mongering (“we’re running out of oil in the 1990’s”) go up in flames !
Mankind is far too inventive and adaptive to not survive ! 3 degree warmer weather, even if true: bring it on .. great for Canada’s growing seasons and more ice free ports .. lower heating bills too !

        1. Oh yes it does. It promotes wealth re-distribution on a global and national scale. Socialism aims to remove individual liberties and to place the government in charge of our lives. The global warming issue is a strategy for the advancement of socialism, under the environmental movement guise of “saving the earth”.

  2. Show me the money! The problem is that Harper can’t let science win. Only the money that lines the conservative fundraising account, otherwise known as the CAPP kick back.
