Strange Times: Helping Children Play

How did we end up here?

Isn’t it amazing that, as in the post below, children cycling or playing on their own is something worth blogging about?  Like this.

I saw the above banner at Caribbean Days Festival in North Vancouver last weekend, where staff with the Province’s health promotion strategy, HealthyFamilies BC, were engaging kids in play – because, I guess, kids now need encouragement and instruction:

Instead of isolation:

Still, it seems that play in the human species is  instinctive – even if today we insist on constant supervision.

I admit that when I saw the kid on the left below, I wondered: Where are his parents, and are they being irresponsible by letting him play on the sculpture by himself?

A few moments later, when I turned around to see, he was gone.
