The CBC: Withering away, or with a new focus?
.
Is the CBC to become a footnote to commercial broadcast interests, its funds shrunk by an unsympathetic federal government? Is the notion of a publicly-funded, national broadcaster now irrelevant? Or is there a new role for the CBC that warrants its public investment and is commercially defensible?
.
In polls, a majority of Canadians say they want a national public broadcaster. What do they want from it, and how do they want it delivered? And how is it to be funded?
.
To start the conversation, we have Marketing Professor Colleen Collins from SFU’s Beedie School of Business, and a presenter from Open Media, an advocacy group that supports the CBC and other media. Then it’s your turn to question, comment, opine. Feel free to bring your lunch.
