City Conversations: Student Mental Health – Jan 16

The next edition of City Conversations, presented by SFU Public Square:

Out of the Closet: Student Mental Health

Who hasn’t felt anxious, stressed or depressed at some time? Who hasn’t known a friend or colleague with these problems?

In confidential surveys, each year about 11 percent of college students report these conditions. Yet for most, mental health issues are in the closet— sufferers afraid to acknowledge it to others, and others fearing, stereotyping and rejecting those who do.

Our presenters, psychologist Erika Horwitz, Associate Director of SFU’s Health and Counselling Services and creator of SFU’s HiFIVE initiative; and Christine Jamieson, SFU student and co-creator of Faces of Mental Illness, will describe their innovative plans to end the stigma attached to mental health… and mental illness.

Then it’s your turn to join the conversation. Feel free to bring your lunch.

When: Thursday January 16, 2014

Time: 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Location: Room 1600, SFU Vancouver at Harbour Centre

Cost: Free
