YET ANOTHER GUIDE TO BUILDING BETTER CITIES

Referred by Ron Richings, of course – here.

WheelsGetting the Wheels Rolling: A Guide to Using Policy to Create Bicycle Friendly Communities provides a roadmap to making all types of communities bicycle friendly. … This guide helps policymakers figure out where to start, and spells out how to effectively use policy to promote bicycling.

BUILDING BETTER BOLLARDS

Something for the redesigners of the B.C. Parkway:

The Hardenberg municipality has started using the first trial location for testing bike posts. Flexible LED-illuminated bike posts have been installed, as well as a road markings set in a ribbed pattern. These changes were made to reduce the number of cycling accidents. Because the flexible bike posts better absorb the energy of a collision, cyclists are not expected to suffer severe injuries after colliding with one.

RIGHTEOUS SHIFTERS

Again from Ron Richings:

I received info about what seems to be a very worthwhile bikey project – simple, repairable shifters.  Has a worldwide impact, as explained by Sue Knaup in the info that follows.  Bikes in and for poor and developing countries need simple and inexpensive shifters – something that seems to be no longer available commercially.

Please have a look and share, promote, or donate as you see fit.
