In praising UBC’s public realm improvements a few days ago, I mentioned that I was unaware of any awards they had won. Turns out they haven’t – because they haven’t yet applied, having just finished Main Mall this spring. But until then, they can take satisfaction in the numerous awards already received for the redevelopment of the Buchanan Courtyard – a modernist building with, as I remember, a dismal outdoor space.
Not any more.
