THE LATEST IN BIKE-SHARE
It’s Copenhagen’s Go-Bike: “new generation of share-bicycles is to be trialled as the ‘missing link’ in the Danish public transport system,” according to Cycle Chic.
.
The bicycle itself has an integrated touch-screen
with navigational routes and a locking system. Apps on any android phone will allow the bicycle to be reserved and whilst on the bicycle you can even buy train tickets.
The bike itself was pretty heavy so it’ll be interesting to see whether this will deter citizens from using Them on a daily basis. Over at Copenhagenize.com, there is a great deal of scepticism about these bikes.

AN UPDATE ON CITIBIKE IN NYC from Ken Ohrn
New York’s Citi bike is roaring along, since its launch on May 27, 2013. In the most recent two weeks’ data, the average bike is used around seven times per day – a respectable figure, but growth is dependent upon rebalancing, or if you like, servicing latent demand.
The total miles travelled in the 90 or so days since launch is 5,550,400.
The average trip duration is around 15 minutes. (Hop on, ride to get there, hop off).
Popular travel patterns are beginning to emerge – for example, transit hub bike stations empty out in the morning and fill up at night, as NYC residents apparently multi-mode, and bike-share deals with the “last mile”.
Re-balancing continues to be a challenge, brought on by popularity and demand. Success depends on developing strategies around travel patterns that are still emerging.

If only BC could be so visionary and start to build something along the lines of the Route Verte…hope to plan a cycle trip there soon! The link “This project” above is broken, it should be http://bikeportland.org/2013/08/22/how-to-build-the-worlds-longest-bike-touring-route-8-questions-for-jean-francois-pronovost-92823
