I suppose no one is irreplaceable, but Tourism Vancouver is going to have a tough time replacing Rick Antonson. His contributions (and legacies) to this city are as great as some of our mayors (some might say whole councils!)
The Sun: “Antonson was a central player in the 14-year campaign to bring the Olympics to Vancouver, and in the long battle for a new downtown convention centre. Early in his career, Antonson frequently made the news with his blunt messages about the need to deal with Vancouver’s aggressive panhandlers and poorly trained taxi drivers.
“He was determined to build Vancouver tourism by looking at social, cultural, environmental and economic responsibilities and benefits. Critics were widespread and vocal, arguing the focus should be more on “the short term and the summer we’re in,” Antonson said, but today, many would agree his broad, longer-term approach has worked.”
I chose this shot on the right because it’s the one he uses as a writer – the next stage in his career. (What is it with writers and black turtlenecks?)
But if you know someone who would like to succeed him, the Executive Brief is here.
