On Tuesday evenings in the summer – and we’ll be talking about this one for years to come – there’s a ritual event on the north end of Third Beach, something very west-coast and lovely.

.
Drummers from all over Vancouver come together here a few hours before sunset, joined by dozens of onlookers and occasional participants, to beat a good-bye to the day.
.
Most come by bicycle, it appears. In fact, cycling to Third Beach is part of the ritual – and not just for drumming.
.
This drumfest used to take place at Second Beach – and became such a big deal that it overwhelmed other users in the park. The idyllic became an annoyance. Moving to Third Beach seems to have worked things out.

No, moving to Third hasn’t worked things out in the slightest. The beach is TINY so there’s nowhere to get away from the noise if a bunch of discoordinated randoms playing bongos isn’t your “thing”. I’ve given up even thinking of going to Third on a Tuesday now because of this.
