What I learned from my son…Skateboarding is special for kids: unlike almost any other sport, it’s completely unstructured, no games, no teams, no coaches, no parental supervision, no schedules, no rules, self-regulated by the kids themselves. And you can do it in lots of places, even including skate parks.
On-road, off-road, seeing friends or simply experiencing the freedom of being able to get miles from home in only a few minutes, cycling was special when I was growing up. Helmets were virtually unheard of so we had the wind in our hair wherever we went.
