Sometimes The Sun op-ed page just can’t help itself. The piece by Lee Thiessen (former executive director for climate change policy with the Climate Action Secretariat) assumes the reader accepts that greenhouses gases cause climate change. But then check out the accompanying image:

The line underneath the pic: “The carbon tax is a key strategy in the province’s fight against climate change.” Sure, that’s the message.

A similar, odd juxtaposition occurred in Saturday’s Sun. Pete McMartin’s column (http://tiny.cc/x7rutw) discussed research that shows increasing fossil fuel usage is such that we are on track to far exceed a 2C increase in global warming. The 2C limit is considered the maximum temperature increase before catastrophic climate change sets in. McMartin’s half-page article appeared above a half-page automobile advertisement encouraging motorists to “take the long, long, long, long, long way home”. The ad was a nice shade of green, though.
It’s funny that he opinion piece is so positive about the carbon tax, but the accompanying photo is so negative. I think that the editor made a little mistake there.
