Electric Vehicles – Charging Up the Metro Vancouver Region
The next Metro Vancouver Sustainability Community Breakfast will take place Wednesday, March 13, 2013 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) downtown Vancouver campus at 555 Seymour Street, Vancouver.
When it comes to electric vehicles, an important consideration is the availability of infrastructure, particularly charging stations. Metro Vancouver and its Member Municipalities have been part of the roll-out of over 100 new publicly available charge points across the region, supported through provincial incentive funds.
Join us to hear a range of perspectives on electric vehicles an individual vehicle owners experience, a business owners decision to install charging stations, and BC Hydro’s approach to manage potential grid impacts on their network.
Speakers:
- Paul Bernard, Educator and Electric Vehicle Owner
- Eric Pateman, President and Founder, Edible Canada Culinary Experiences Corp.
- Alec Tsang, Senior Technology Strategist, Chief Technology Office, BC Hydro

Electric vehicles are quite popular in Metro Vancouver and have been for decades. Around 650,000 trips per day are made in electric buses and trains. Electric bikes are also becoming more and more popular.
I doubt that overweight inefficient costly electric cars will ever be really popular with consumers. An electric car sharing system like in Paris, however, would be a great idea.
