Jobs Jar: Director of Policy and Research, BC Care Providers Association

The BC Care Providers Association is seeking a Director of Policy and Research to gather and analyze data regarding seniors care issues. This role requires a great deal of flexibility and drive, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a positive team orientation.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for making recommendations on the key areas of focus for policy research. Leading a team of interns, your research will help raise the profile of the BCCPA as a thought leader in regards to the provision of seniors’ care in BC.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide strategic thought leadership on policy issues affecting the provision of assisted living, independent living, homecare and long-term care in BC.
 Advise the CEO and/or government on the implications of policies, including trends, risks, and developments
 Lead and manage the research and analysis required to produce BCCPA white papers, policy memos and reports.
 Produce talking points, briefings, research notes, and PowerPoint presentations for both internal and external audiences
 Conduct various forms of research including phone and in-person interviews as well as statistical analysis of health data in BC.
 Represent BCCPA in meetings, coalitions, panels and at conferences
 Analyze, synthesize, and summarize dense and complex information accurately, clearly, and within a short time-frame
 Meet with key seniors’ care stakeholders across the province to both gather input for research and then help ensure that research is put into practice
 Supervise both graduate and undergraduate interns
 Assist with grant-writing
 Promote public understanding of the dilemmas that seniors and our sector face through fact-based evidence.
 Develop and maintain effective relationships with appropriate Ministry of Health and Health Authority policy and service delivery staff and information sources.
 To write regular articles and updates and to advise on content for BCCPA newsletter and website and other materials as required.

BCCPA has represented non-profit, denominational and privately-owned assisted living, long term care and home support providers across the province for over 35 years.
In addition to employing more than 7,000 British Columbians, BCCPA members care for over 10,000 seniors each day in residential care and an additional 4,000 each year through home support.
The Association has become a strong voice for seniors in care, their families and the service providers who provide front-line services each day.
Qualifications:
The fast-paced, small business environment of BCCPA requires employees to be organized, flexible, detail-oriented and to work at an above-average pace. All staff must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and analytical and problem-solving abilities. In addition, the Director of Policy and Research must possess:
 Knowledge of health policy at the regional, provincial and federal level
 Exceptional writing skills
 Project management skills
 Ability to supervise, train, and mentor staff
 Good sense of humour
 Ability to think in innovative ways
 Strong interpersonal skills, and have proficient-to-advanced skills with MS Office suite
 Ability to work independently
Ideally you would also have:
Minimum 3 years previous work experience in the area of policy development and/or research
 A Masters Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration or Political Science is preferred, but not required
Compensation:
Compensation will be competitive based on the candidate’s previous experience and credentials.
