  1. I like the German and other variations better than the Vancouver and Portland variety – because in those other designs, the downhill side step does not continue across to create a “lip”. I realize that the lip is likely there to contain strollers and wheelchairs in the event that they may “runaway”, but they present a serious tripping hazard for pedestrians who walk in a straight line down the stairs.
