Hundreds of cyclists will be in town this week for the international Velo-City conference at the Wall Centre, as well as at many of the shoulder events.
The City Program is co-hosting an event with Vancouver Cycle Chic and Urban Systems on Thursday, welcoming Mikael Colville-Andersen – he of Copenhagen Cycle Chic, etc. (booked out already). But it does give us an excuse to post this:

First posted on the Vancouver Cycle Chic blog, this is a great example of the latest cycling trend: Style over Speed. (The full manifesto is here.)
And this is Rachel, who served as a Program Assistant for the SFU City Program, and whom you’ll now find at Trench Contemporary Art on Alexander Street. As well, no doubt, at Vancouver Cycle Chic’s Social following the Velo-City Conference: Friday at 8:30 pm, in the Old Boneta (1 West Cordova). Ticket details on the banner – here.

Saw a pic in the newspaper (G&M?) today of all the Bixi bikes lined up in front of the Sheraton Wall Centre for the conference.
If the City of Vancouver were smart, it would try to negotiate a discount purchase deal for the bikes that are already here for teh conference, as it would alleviate the owner of the cost of shipping them back to where they came from (and save the City the cost of shipping in new bikes).
