Third Thursday City Conversation: The New News

The New News. Reporting the Region in the Digital Age.

When: June 21, 2012
Time: 12:30-1:30 pm
Location: SFU Vancouver, Harbour Centre, Room 1600

How has disruption of the traditional print business model changed coverage of government, business, the region and neighbourhoods? How has the audience changed?

We’ve invited some pioneers of digital media with a wide range of experience to explore the terrain, and to speculate on where we may all be heading.

David Beers is founding editor of The Tyee – one of the first solely online publications in Vancouver.  He was a senior editor at The Vancouver Sun, Mother Jones and the San Francisco Examiner, and has won national honours for his writing and editing in Canada and the U.S.

Many are familiar with Frances Bula’s work as a writer with the daily press, where she is a regular columnist with Urban Fix magazine, and a frequent contributor to the Vancouver Sun and The Globe and Mail.  But her blog – State of Vancouver – is a must-read source of news and comment for thousands.

Paul Hillsdon, an SFU Urban Studies student, is a co-blogger for Civic Surrey – an example of a local blog charting the urban evolution of BC’s second largest city.
