Andy Coupland sends along an image that has probably confounded a lot of people who have wondered: why is there a parking lot no one can get to (in a car)?
.
Andy explains:
It’s the International Village parking lot, that will one day (soon?) be a new school.
But in the meantime Henderson Developments had to build the childcare that was part of the public benefit package for IV, and they built it on the access into the parking lot. So for now you get a parking lot that you can’t drive into.
All very surrealistic! (Of course the drivers probably think its a conspiracy to stop them parking…)

It just needs a new driveway, and that’s indicative of either of 2 things.
If the lot is already owned by the City (School Board) – it shows a lack of resource planning – when the lot could be making money for the cash-strapped City and VSB.
If the lot is still owned by Henderson – it shows that they don’t need the cash – which backs up the seemingly lowkey efforts to make International Village Mall a commercial success.
… or that the money to be made doesn’t justify the expenditure.
To pave a driveway?
And charge $30 event parking next to GM Place and BC Place?
It’s been clearly photo shopped in the lower right quad of the drive way. Probably was an entry there at one time.
Not photoshopped unless someone also got to Google Maps 😉
