Best Playgrounds in the World

Another great photographic series from Flavorwire.  Interesting, but not surprising, that only one of the 15 is in North America, and that one is in New York:

New York City. Designed by Tom Otterness

.

Most are in northern Europe, two in Copenhagen alone.

The Brumleby playground, Copenhagen. Designed by Monstrum

.

Buga 05 playground, Munich, Germany. Designed by Rainer Schmidt Landschaftsarchitekten

.

With the rest in Asia.

Woods of Net in Hakone, Japan. Designed by Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam

See them all here.

  1. While these highly designed playgrounds are visually interesting and clever, they appear static and lacking the capacity for manipulation and transformation that would make them truly interesting to children. In other words, great for adults to look at, not so interesting for children to play in, a point made eloquently by Kevin Lynch in Good City Form years ago.
