I have a free ticket to General Orders No. 9 – part of Doxa, Vancouver’s documentary film festival:
Some eleven years in the making, Robert Persons’ mesmerizing film essay has drawn comparisons to the work of Terrence Malick. It is an easy correlative to draw, but Person’s visionary film has a rare spirit and ravishing beauty all its own. Part ode to a vanishing culture, part prose poem, and possessing an almost religious devotion to the holy beauty of the planet, General Orders No. 9, breaks with conventional documentary form to tread new ground.
It’s on Monday, May 7 at 7 pm – Pacific Cinémathèque.
And I will give it to the best little item that says something about Vancouver – an image, an observation, a joke. You can include it in the Comments, or send it to me at “pricetags at shaw.ca” – using the little ‘at’ sign, of course.
