Jane’s Walk 2012 – May 5 & 6 – Experience your city
“Get out and walk” in the footsteps of Jane Jacobs for the 6th annual Jane’s Walk in metro Vancouver
On Saturday, May 5 & Sunday, May 6, thousands of people in metro Vancouver and around the world will take to the streets to discuss their city at the pace of a walk for the 6th annual Jane’s Walk. Last year 20,000 people answered to Jane Jacobs’ famous call to “get out and walk” and explored their own and others’ neighbourhoods with fresh eyes and curious minds.
Created in 2007 in Toronto by friends of the urban thinker Jane Jacobs, the annual series of free, volunteer-led urban walks has grown from 27 to over 500 walks across the world, from Calgary to Canberra and Sao Paulo to Saskatoon.
Vancouver area walks confirmed to date include a tour of the ‘west’ West End led by Gordon Price, Director of the City Program at SFU; a walk through the Grandview Woodlands led by historian John Atkins; and a ‘walk to school’ in Burnaby Heights, among several others. The full list of walks can be found at janeswalk.net/cities/landing/category/vancouver. More walks are being added each week, so be sure to check back regularly.

For those looking for more information on hosting a walk, there will be an information session on Tuesday, April 17th, from 7-8:30pm at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, 800 East Broadway, Vancouver.
