Lunch Poems @ SFU – Evelyn Lau, Poet Laureate

A new series designed to foster poetry in Vancouver will launch on Wednesday at Simon Fraser University’s Vancouver campus, with a public reading by Vancouver Poet Laureate Evelyn Lau.

An award-winning poet and writer, Lau is currently working on her sixth collection of poetry and rose to prominence in the literary world at the age of 18 when her first work, entitled Runaway: Diary of a Street Kid, was published. In October of 2011, Lau began her three-year term as Vancouver’s Poet Laureate.

Accompanying Lau at the first session will be guest poet Daniela Elza. Elza has been published in over fifty literary and peer-reviewed publications, in addition to her published poetry.

Accomplished Canadian writer and poet Wayde Compton is scheduled for the next lunch poems event on April 18. Compton is also the new director of SFU’s creative writing program, The Writer’s Studio.

The series is free and open to the public.
