Price Points: The social life of a small urban space

Where is this – and why doesn’t it work very well as a public space?

Yazmín Hernández Bañuelas, Daniel Martin and Kevin Jingyi Zhang – all SCARP* students in a course conducted by Larry Beasley – explain why in a video produced as a student assignment, which you can find at Price Points in SpacingVancouver.

For urbanists of a certain age, you might recognize the similarity to a truly seminal video by William Whyte, who pioneered time-lapse photography to analyse New York’s public plazas.  You’ll find out more about Whyte and his work here, as well as the video, also at Price Points in SpacingVancouver.

  1. I work near this plaza and in the summer, when it’s actually warm out, there’s always lots of people sitting there at lunchtime, myself included 🙂
