Frank Ducote – a senior urban designer at City Hall – has, like so many of his generation, ‘retired.’ And, like so many of his generation, pursued his dreams – in this case, art. Along with his partner, Susan Taylor, they’ve opened Blood Star Gallery on South Pender Island.
Here’s a recent composition by Frank – The Alley. Particularly appropriate for an urban designer, I’d say, since it captures the look of our lanes today. My guess: given the land values in Vancouver and the cost of housing, and now the legality of lanes houses across the city, our alleys will become mews – primarily residential enclaves. And this image will capture an era that will seem very distant not too long from now.
