Parkour for Skiers: All. I. Can

Yurbanism was quick to pick this up:

This. Is. Amazing. I love cities and I love skiing. I never thought that the two could mix until I saw this trailer. Whether you can it street skiing, ski parkour, or ski porn it is simply incredible.

I gotta agree.   Virtuoso film-making by Sherpas: not a wasted frame.  (Backgrounder here.) An amazing performance on skis by JP Auclair.   And an incidental portrayal of a gritty working-class town in the Kootenays that’s becoming a life-style centre similar to Tofino and Nelson.

Not to mention the visual joke at the end – using transit!

  1. Awesome. I almost don’t want to read the backgrounder so that I can just believe that there was no fancy camera work to make that look so real!

  2. What a beautiful film; the Sherpas are TGR in the making and its great to see them in urban settings, with transit… one has to feel bad for the skis, though.

Just spent the day with the dog in inner SW Calgary doing the loop I usually do on a bike, on XC skis. A little more tame than this, but yes, skis and cities are certainly more mixable than we usually think. I used to ski to school regularly in Montreal, a few years back, via streets (if early enough) and the trackset (and other) trails on Mont-Royal. Maybe we’re in for a golden age in urban skiing!
