Would have liked to hear the presentation complementing this PowerPoint. Like the top level advice though: don’t over-retail, know the neighbourhood, be realistic about parking, be creative.
We’re seeing big changes – more infill – over on my area of Fraser Street. While I think it’s a good sign I don’t see how it will all work yet. There’s a surplus of retail space, most of it moribund or empty. There’s a lack of public realm, very little park space or squares. There are no seniors amenities despite the high number of seniors in the area. We’ve got too much class space for the number of kids, but the schools and grounds are underwhelming.
City staff are not in any position to address this from what I can see. They’re focused on other priorities. I’ll see if our neighbourhood wants to weigh in on what the future holds here.
