Not surprised to see Tiffany & Co ad at Hastings & Carrall….an increasing number of good restaurants in the area!
Must add that while some DTES social housing activists advocate mixed communities throughout the city except in the DTES, and do their best to stop condo development, I’m pleased they can’t stop good new restaurants from opening up and (apparently) bus shelter advertising! (Although sadly, I expect that now you have drawn attention to this, someone will deface it.)
Contrary to Mr. Geller, I would consider an advertisement such as that an insult to the long-term residents in the area, and I expect even Tiffany & Co. weren’t asking for that location in particular (do advertisers get to choose which bus stops they get? I always assumed not). Also not sure what advertisement for expensive luxury items has to do with good restaurants such as the diner at Save-on Meats, which thankfully follows a more noble spirit of trying to give back to the community they are part of than steamrolling the neighbourhood in gentrification.
Yeah, it would make a lot more sense to have an ad for products and services used by the local residents. Advertising rates should also vary accordingly.
