Architects discover the angle

First West Pender Place (with the totally cool LED lightshow down the side of the shear wall) – and now 745 Thurlow.   We’ll be able to date buildings c. 2010 by the off-centre angles of their curtain walls – a development made possible, I presume, by computer technologies and the skills of the guys who fly the concrete forms.   (But who led the way?  Gehry?  Koolhaas? )

Laying to rest the criticism that downtown Vancouver was only a resort for the condo class, the office development at Thurlow and Alberni is a go.  Here’s the video:

UPDATE: Andy Coupland adds them up:

That’s the third office tower and eighth office project in the city this year! (Some are approved, others are still in process). There’s also a scheme at Renfrew SkyTrain approved, 2 on West Broadway and Marine Gateway has 250,000+ of office approved in the rezoning.
745 Thurlow – Bentall
1021 W Hastings – Oxford
W Georgia – Telus/Westbank
Granville/Robson small building
Beatty Gate add 4 floors
Burrard Gateway – office tower + podium in mixed use project
400 Terminal – 5 and 8 storey
Central – Onni, Main Street

  1. The Angle will be a great selling feature when this thing gets converted into condos a few years down the road. 😉 OK it’s a joke
