  1. I’d say UEL, but UBC does have bars…

Maybe Bowen? But 100 jobs per year? Seems steep.

Lions Bay? Forestry jobs? But were there four schools?

    Tsawwassen First Nation?

White Rock or Langley City? Surely they each have more than four restaurants…

    Maybe it’s Electoral Area A…

    -D

  2. 3) Anmore
    2) Belcarra
The city must be big enough to have more than 5 schools, but small enough to only have 4 eating places! Final guess…
    1) District of North Van?

    1. Really? DNV has only four restaurants not including chains? I’ve eaten at more than that in just Deep Cove – some nice ones, too. I suggest a trip is in order.

  3. I’m going to guess Langley district. It’s only a guess, though, but it sounds right. It’s a mix of older rural homes and the hobby farm mansions of millionaires, it’s not got a lot of commercial zones for restaurants, and its growth is restricted by the ALR.

  4. As a person that grew up in Langley District and know of many schools that have closed and are slated to close not to mention the number of teachers and teachers assistance that have been let go or retired and not replaced of in the area I agree with anyone that says Langley district and the city of Langley.

  5. Have any of you been to Langley ever? There are lots bars and restaurant, plus Langley Township is one of the high growth municipalities in our region. More likely Anmore, Belcarra, Lions Bay, or Bowen.

  6. At first District of Langley seems very unlikely as it has many restaurants, but when you factor out the City of Langley, and all of the chain restaurants, it actually seems possible. Consider also that a Bar may mean a true “liquor primary” bar.

The main reason I’d exclude District of Langley is that it has had significant residential growth and I think a lot of that is from young families. That would make me feel like the population wouldn’t be getting older.

  7. Why would you exclude chain restaurants from the count of restaurants?

How about “[X] supermarkets (excluding those that don’t sell organic foods?)”

    It smacks of elitism.

    1. Because cultural diversity is a sign of a healthy community. That’s the pattern in the subject of the list items: they talk about the health of a community.

(Note that (e) specifically points at income disparity as a problem. There’s another clue that the list is not “elitist”.)
