Hornby Cycle Track Update – 4

On Update 2, I wrote:

It (the Hornby bike route) will be used, probably in ways we can’t even anticipate.  In fact, I can imagine a scenario in which it’s overused, perhaps sooner than we think.  More about that later.

So what might lead to overuse?  This:

Expect a tsunami of electric bicycles now that power-packs and batteries have become so compact and light-weight.

Which will invariably lead to this:

You can just imagine that aging Boomers will want the SUV equivalent of the motorized scooter, and they’ll want to ride ’em on the separated paths.  And with everyone going different speeds, it should be, well, hell on wheels.

It’s not too early for some ground rules to be established, enforced with appropriate discretion, so we avoid some of the predictable nasty consequences in the future.  First rule: absolutely no two-stroke gasoline engines – some of which I’ve already seen attached to bikes.
