The new SFU Institute for Values in Policy and Science invites you to their opening event:
“Policy in the Face of Complexity and Deep Uncertainty: Genetically Modified Organisms”
Wednesday, March 9, 2011, 7pmDr. Sandra Mitchell
Department of History and Philosophy of Science, University of PittsburghSegal Centre, 555 Hastings Street SFU Harbour Centre Room 1400
Light refreshments at 6:30pm. Please RSVP at www.sfu.ca/reserveHow will genetically modified organisms impact biological diversity? How should we set human policies for global climate? The risks, unknown factors, and complexities challenge the traditional ‘predict and act’ models of policy making. This lecture suggests strategies for managing unknowns and setting reasonable policies.
Great poster too:

I really, really wish that these lectures would show up on the net somewhere — as a podcast? I’m surprised SFU would go the trouble to advertise this open lecture event, but then fail to effectively market it to the masses.
Come on SFU — get out of the 1990’s already!
